Packaging & Shipping

Packaging and delivery are always big issues, especially when shipping one of a kind pieces that can be insured but cannot be replaced. Hopefully this article will answer all your questions on this issue when buying art from By Leigh.

All Unframed Art – art on canvas board, mount board, heavy paper, canvas paper, etc – is sent in reinforced packaging. Pieces A3 size (420 x 297mm / 16.5″ x 11.7″) and under are usually mounted, backed and wrapped then supported with a hard material like cardboard, mountboard or foam core to ensure that the piece is not bent or dented in transit. The entire thing is then sealed within a cardboard envelope or double wrapped in heavy duty brown paper.

All Framed Art – art in a traditional frame or on stretched canvas whether deep or thin profile – is covered in wax paper to avoid the packaging adhering to your painting. This is then covered with a hard material like cardboard, mountboard or foam core to ensure that the piece is not bent or dented in transit. The entire thing is then bubble wrapped and taped until the cows come home, before it is sealed into a cardboard box or double wrapped with heavy duty brown paper.

By Leigh avoids shipping any art with glass as this can damage the painting if, for some reason, the glass shatters.

By Leigh also supports recycling, which means that sometimes your packaging materials do not look sparkly and new but they are definitely fit for purpose.

All By Leigh Art is insured when shipped. If your art is damaged on arrival, please take a photo and send it to [email protected] within a week of receiving your art. The longer you wait to do this after you’ve received your package, the harder it is to resolve your claim.

This is usually via Royal Mail 48hr service. All art packages are insured, tracked and will require signature upon delivery. Once your art has been shipped I will email you your tracking number so that you can follow your packages progress on the Royal Mail website if you wish to do so. Larger painting packages are sent via ParcelForce with the same terms i.e. insured, tracked and will require signature upon delivery. If your package is too big for either local carrier, I use UPS.

This is a big one because my current shopping basket system does not support instant shipping calculation. I am investigating a system upgrade but this will take some time. So at present, unless otherwise stated, all By Leigh shipping prices listed are for local/UK shipping. On the website, you are prompted to state whether you require international or local delivery, however this cannot be done when you buy via By Leigh Newsletter promotions. In these instances, when you enter your address info, your exact international shipping price will be calculated and an additional invoice will be sent to you to cover the difference. If at this point you would prefer not to proceed with your purchase, you will receive a full refund.

Currently, I use UPS for all By Leigh’s international shipping. Packages are all tracked and insured and will require a signature upon receipt. It is important to note that if your country’s Customs department charges additional taxes and duties, these costs are not covered in your international shipping price unless you have speciafically asked that it be included. Customs taxes and duty charges are usually a percentage of the value of the item being shipped but each country has a different way of calculating these charges which is why I am unable to give any approximate prices until I know your exact address.
